Solomon Islands Public Service acquires Ross’ new Aurion software to keep its records

In announcing an initiative by the Ministry of Public Service to improve HR management information systems and bring pay costs under control, Public Service Minister Milner Tozaka says Solomon Islanders will benefit from an efficient and cost effective public service which keeps its records up to date.

In July, the Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MoFT) installed Ross’  Aurion software package to run the public service payroll system.  Mr Tozaka noted that Aurion is in fact an integrated Human Resources Management (HRM) and payroll tool. “The Government recognises that Aurion can do much more than send out pay cheques every fortnight,” Mr Tozaka said. “With the support of the RAMSI Public Service Improvement Program (PSIP), the MPS will build a sound HR management information system using the Aurion tool. This will help us with record keeping about staff who hold posts in the public service. Importantly, it will also help us to improve the control over public service staff costs which are a very significant cost to the Government.”

Mr Tozaka said that Aurion brings together Establishment figures (nos. agreed positions) as well as personnel and payroll data.  He said that bringing together all of the information has already shown benefits such as revealing a difference between the number of people on the payroll and the number of approved posts.  The MPS, with the MoFT and PSIP support, is meeting with Ministry HR Managers to check and resolve these differences, some of which may simply be due to inaccurate records.
