Recent research has provided some insights regarding pay levels in Ireland in 2010. Where companies intended to decrease pay, the average decrease was -7.7%. Where all companies were included, the overall expected change to pay in 2010 amounted to a decrease of -0.43%.

The survey was conducted electronically. A total of 474 companies responded to the survey, accounting for 102,572 employees. Over a third of respondents were from companies with fewer than 50 employees, with one in ten respondents employing over 500 employees.
Half of the respondent companies were not unionized with an additional 48% either fully- or partly-unionised. Almost half (48%) of respondents were
engaged in the services sector, with 39% engaged in manufacturing.
