focus on diversity
by Sarah Brown, National Account Manager
RossJuliaRoss has held a number of Diversity Briefings in recent weeks, with the support of Diversity@Work and Yarn’n Employment Consultancy Services. These briefings have been well received by the clients who have attended thus far and if you would like to participate in the next one, please email john.cooper@rossjuliaross.com
John has actively built relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians in our bid to help our clients develop and promote a diverse work force. To date our involvement in and promotion of indigenous job seekers has included:
- working with QANTAS in the establishment of their Reconciliation Action Plan
- working with Yarn’n Employment Consultancy Services in the preparation of the RossJuliaRossReconciliation Action Plan
- more than 100 placement opportunities of varying skill and experience level for indigenous Australian’s
- committee member of and involvement in the Job Compact Scheme
RossJuliaRoss is recognised as a Subject Matter Expert in indigenous and diversity recruitment and has developed this knowledge base through extensive engagement with key indigenous and diversity community groups to better understand their specific job needs and also to introduce RossJuliaRoss, as a pathway to employers of choice for diversity job seekers.
We have been proactive in educating our team members, from junior Consultant level, to senior Management to encourage the attraction and retention of indigenous candidates and this in turn has resulted in Consultants and Managers educating their clients on the benefit of a promoting a diverse workforce. We are now liaising with Yarn’n Employment Consultancy Services in the preparation of the RossJuliaRoss Reconciliation Action Plan
Through our relationship with Yarn'n Employment we were introduced to the Job Compact Scheme, which was established to generate local employment opportunities for Aboriginal people. The NSW Premier established 12 Job Compacts in June 2008 across various major regional and urban areas with large Aboriginal populations and good employment opportunities. We have embraced the Job Compact Scheme and are now represented on the Committees of both the East Sydney and West Sydney Job Compact boards.
